Galeri Bosfor Opens New Space in Karaköy with Group Exhibition “Kölemen 7”
Istanbul’s dynamic contemporary art scene welcomes a significant new chapter as Galeri Bosfor opens the doors of its new space in Karaköy with a group exhibition titled “Kölemen 7,” named after the very street where it now resides. This new address signals an ambitious evolution for the gallery, further establishing its commitment to fostering contemporary art and dialogue in the heart of the city.
The new venue comprises two interconnected historical buildings: one housing the gallery offices, the other entirely dedicated to the exhibition space. The gallery has been thoughtfully redesigned to evoke a sense of sanctuary—at once sacred, feminine, and deeply welcoming. Gentle curves soften the corners, embracing visitors much like a mother’s womb, while two grand salons crowned by skylit domes flood the space with natural light, creating an atmosphere that invites contemplation and connection.
“Kölemen 7”, curated by the founding director Gökşen Buğra, brings together a diverse roster of artists, reflecting the gallery’s expanding vision. The exhibition features works by Burcu Erden, Mithat Şen, Erman Özbaşaran, Olgu Ülkenciler, Ahmet Çerkez, Yasha Butler, Ilgın Seymen, Funda Susamoğlu, Barış Göktürk, Işıl Kapu, along with three new additions to the gallery’s program: Eda Soylu, Betül Kotil, and French photographer Laurent Champoussin. Across sculpture, relief, ceramics, photography, and painting, the artists explore a range of contemporary expressions that resonate with the architectural spirit of the new space.
With this new chapter, Galeri Bosfor reaffirms its foundational ethos: creating a space where the artist and the artwork stand as vital pillars—just as integral to the gallery’s structure as the very walls that house them. By opening “Kölemen 7,” Galeri Bosfor invites audiences to step into a dialogue between past and present, body and space, art and life—right at the vibrant crossroads of Karaköy.
